Go me for not noticing these things until after the fact
President Obama called someone A Bad Word and yet the No Cussing Club remains eerily silent on the matter... have they lost their way? Did the administration get to them? Who watches the watchmen?
Two years ago when Windows Phone 7 came out, I made a mockup of a "Metro" version of MS Paint. Now Windows 8 is coming out with a whole new Metro-based interface (it's not actually called Metro anymore, I just can't be bothered to look up what they're calling it this week) and guess what?? They're STILL not making a Metro version of Paint! It'll only be available as a "desktop-only" application along with its venerable sidekick Notepad. I crunched the numbers and I determined that the lack of Paint was the #1 reason Windows Phone 7 was a flop, and now it looks like Microsoft is repeating their mistake. Why won't they listen to me!!!

- Not sure how I feel about Newsweek ceasing print publication... on one hand it's a pretty awful magazine, on the other hand it's sad to see the print industry disappear right before our eyes. Here's a thing I wrote about it last year
- Famous New York Times columnist Maureen Dowd sometime uses her enormous platform to write, of all things, West Wing/The Newsroom fanfiction. I don't know for sure if she reads this website, but if you do, Maureen, I made an account for you on fanfiction.net so you don't have to waste your precious column space. E-mail me for the password.

Debate thoughts
- There's been three debates, for a total 4.5 hours, and there's been zero questions about gay rights, and it appears there won't be one since the final debate is supposed to be focused on foreign policy. Everything has just been about tax policy and the economy, and the moderators just keep asking the same questions phrased in slightly different ways and the candidates keep giving the same answers and it's driving me crazy. I'm glad immigration and equal pay got brought up (and there was just a tiny bit of discussion about the environment in the energy questions), but it's not enough. I wish this debate had just been about issues that aren't about taxes (since they talked about it for an hour in the previous debate) or foreign policy.
- Biden was all over Romney's "47%" remarks, but Obama never even mentioned it until Romney alluded to it with his claim that he cares about "the 100%" (which has been his standard response/quasi-apology to the fallout). I would have brought it up during one of the ten tax policy questions and tied it to the campaign's message about how Romney favors the top 2%. But what do I know, I'm just a simple country bumpkin
- Other than forced memes like Big Bird and binders (I forgot Romney had even said those things until I got on Twitter afterwards), there've been no really funny moments in the two presidential debates. There's no John McCain literally refusing to look at Obama, no John McCain making funny faces, no John McCain being blindsided. Herman Cain and Rick Perry were funny and all but I think 2008 still holds the crown in "funniest election."
Insane thing I learned today: MSNBC used to have a technology show hosted by Soledad O'Brien and a computer-animated character named Dev Null. I managed to make it a minute and thirty seconds into this video:

First of all, a big thank you to those of you who donated, it is very much appreciated.
Second of all, I watched the debate, found it kind of boring (I think I've spoiled by the Republican debates, and the utter insanity of the 2008 debates) . I thought Jim Leher was okay, he got out of the way like a good moderator should; I'd rather see candidates talk to each other and debate each other instead of that "here's 30 seconds to reiterate your talking points." I think Obama did good, although I wish he had been more forceful at things... he should've said "hm, sounds like Obamacare" when Romney started listing the health care benefits his administration would keep (after repealing them I guess?), and he should've jumped on Romney's statement that if he doesn't like his insurance company he can get a different one (good for you, jerkweed, but a lot of people don't have that option). Meanwhile Romney just looked like William H. Macy from Fargo the whole time, he kept repeating about how bad it is we're investing in green energy (???) and I still have no clue why his Massachusetts health plan is good but its nationalized twin brother Affordable Care Act is bad, and I'm pretty sure he kept denying stuff that's actually in his plan. And then afterwards I go on the Internet and everyone's declaring Romney the Ultimate Championship Winner of the Universe and talking about that damn "Big Bird" thing and I don't know if it's just the media reinforcing their pre-determined narrative no matter what (I lost count of all the times I heard or read the phrase "usually the challenger wins the first debate" in the past two weeks) or if everyone just saw a different debate than I did??
