Doesn’t seem like the new guy fully understands the Mallard Fillmore mindset when it comes to Martin Luther King, Jr. Day… you’re supposed to ignore it, treat it as frivolous, or try to use King’s words to do an epic own on affirmative action
2021 FILM IN REVIEW
A little bit baffled by Carol Kane when I could only recall her in three movies, the same amount of movies I’d seen featuring Jason Momoa. Turns out I’d forgotten her cameo in The Muppet Movie. Speaking of which, I honestly thought there were more Muppet movies in the 80s, but nope, 1984’s Muppets Take Manhattan is it until 1992’s Muppet Christmas Carol.
During the month of May I only watched animated films, an event I dubbed “Ani-May.” I don’t know if I’ll do it again this year. I’ve been watching the Disney animated “canon” at a rate of one a month and I’m tempted to power through some of it. Been doing the same with Studio Ghibli, which is nearly complete.

Couldn’t sleep last night and remembered they killed off the character “Momma” from the comic strip Momma and had other comic strip characters attending the funeral:
What? Is Jeffy from The Family Circus taller than Cathy??? What if the cat from Mutts starts eating the tiny Sergio Aragones mariachi band?
I wonder if Momma plays bridge in heaven with Maxine the cranky old lady from greeting cards…
Disney: Here’s an elaborate family tree featuring seven generations of Donald Duck’s relatives, as well as decades of detailed lore
Also Disney: Yeah, uhhhh, I…. guess Mickey Mouse has a sister…?
I’ve run ads on rubbercat.net/simpsons for years and only just recently met the minimum threshold to actually receive a payment. I was hoping to get an actual, physical check in the mail but apparently they stopped doing that some time ago, ah well. Anyway, I’m taking this opportunity to remove all the ads. So much of the web these days is covered in ads and other cruft, and I’m happy that I’ll no longer be contributing to that upleasantness. This website has always been a labor of love and it shall remain that way. If you’d like to help support my silly endeavors, I’ve started a Ko-fi page. Thank you for reading.
Was looking to buy an hdmi switch for my TV and it’s kinda astonishing how terrible electronics look. Starting to understand why Steve Jobs was considered a radical visionary for saying “I think things should look good, instead of bad”
I wrote a bit about the Simpsons Season 1 DVD (likely the second DVD I ever owned, with Spaceballs being the first) which gave me an excuse to scan the booklet. God damn I love this episode description:
I suspect they might’ve been written by Matt Groening himself (he used to be a copywriter, he wrote the summaries of the Ullman shorts for the episode guide, he’s already writing the introduction for the set) but who knows, maybe that’s giving him too much credit. I feel like some guy at the DVD factory probably wouldn’t have the freedom to write so irreverently, though…
