The Onion AV Club interviewed Matt Groening and they asked him something that they had found in his Wikipedia article about him working for an elderly movie director, a fact that I had added back in February.
Hooray for incredibly nerdy minor accomplishments
TWO
WORDS AND PHRASES THAT NEED TO BE ADDED TO THE DICTIONARY
- the funkteenth
- A vague, unspecified number used to trick squares in humorous situations
Example of usage:
ORNERY BOSS: I need this report soon!!!
COOL HEP CAT: Take a “chill pill” man, you’ll get it by the funkteenth
ORNERY BOSS: Well I’d better, or else– WHAAA?!?!?
I have this great idea for a video game. It’s kind of like Super Mario Brothers 2, only it’s about eighteenth century feminist Mary Wollstonecraft. You have to get past a series of misogynist, abusive husbands who throw brooms and rolling pins at you, and vindicate the rights of women. At the end of every level, a Birdo-like creature tosses babies at you (it’s a metaphor for child-rearing) and you have to escape the restraints of motherhood and reclaim your independence. Once you complete a level, a snippet of the Eurythmics’ “Sisters Are Doin’ It For Themselves” plays.
I call it “World of Wollstonecraft”

- If you’d like to see every Mallard Fillmore-related post I’ve made here in one place, and I really have no why you would, you can see it here.
- I got around to updating the links page
- Did you “catch” the “inside reference” in today’s Something Awful update???
- If you are an internetigrant trying to pass your netizenship exam, just take a gander at this cheat sheet I whipped up for you and you should pass with flying colors!!!
When it comes to The Simpsons having a go at Family Guy, Wikipedia user Cromulent Kwyjibo is not amused!

December 11, 2005. I laughed when Peter Griffin appeared in a crowd of Homer Simpson clones in a Halloween episode of The Simpsons. I also laughed when for another Halloween episode one of the staffers used “Family Guy” for his scary nickname. But when Peter Griffin appeared in a book entitled I Criminali Americani in today’s episode of The Simpsons, I wasn’t laughing.
If I had Matt Groening’s ear, I’d say to him: “Look, you ain’t got no right to complain. Your show was once a paragon of quality, but after 17 years, it has become hopelessly stale. Family Guy is still fresh and I hope Seth Macfarlane has the common sense to end the show on a high note, and not let it deteriorate as you have allowed your show to do.” |
OH NO A CARTOON SHOW IS POKING FUN AT ANOTHER CARTOON SHOW
THIS MEANS WAR, GROENING *SHAKES FIST*
He also finds it important to note that President Lincoln did not actually hire black prostitutes at Cherrywood, as depicted in an episode of Family Guy. Thanks for clearing that all up, “Cromulent Kwyjibo”!
